yeah I'm just now getting the swing and tempo of Ultraviolet, one of the best songs they've made hands down

āI like a mix as well but the melodic stuff stays with me way more these daysā
So much this. I love when they go hard but their melodies live in my head for days.
Ultraviolet is baeeeee

the low rated soundoffs on TFoF are actual comedy

As expected, what little replay the 2 purely heavy tracks had has entirely dropped off for me. I'll probably just remove them so I don't have to skip on every listen. This band without melody is just them throwing literally everything they're good at in the garbage, and what's left is mid af.

I mean I still like the heavy songs but yeah they've got absolutely fucking nothing on their more melodic tracks

Iāll tell you their value, itās breaking things up. While we all seem to agree their melodic tracks are their peak, if it was straight that it would probs end up too samey. I might be wrong but thatās what I feel like would happen. Adds variety for me
Also, I kinda appreciate they donāt fall into the stereotypical scream verse, sing chorus, repeat, bridge/breakdown, chorus space either on this EP. Jaded does, but they mostly change up the structure a little bit at least

I wish the heavy songs weren't so one-note though. Beauty Of Suffering and Bleach Bath were my fave songs for a long time and it's because they were both ultra heavy yet very melodic and emotional. They need to go in that direction again with the heavier songs

That I agree with for sure. Their heavy songs nowadays are basic bitch

That's the entirety of my problem with their current heavy songs. I know damn well that they can write heavy tracks with actual depth, they've just stopped doing it. Throwing on some of those older songs and doing a side-by-side comparison of the riffs is insane. Mike used to PLAY, man.
I'm so pro "pop" Spiritbox because at least it sounds like he's actually trying there. It's more in small touches and textures than outright riffing but you can hear him doing something cool on most of these softer songs.

I think they're stuck in the mindset of trying to get a second Holy-Roller breakout hit which is why they've been replicating that formula lately. I think it's a mistake. As for lack of riffs, I think Mike has realized that Courtney is the heart of the band so he just gives her a canvas to work from and he's mostly stopped trying to do cool riffs and solos like he used to. There's still some like on Jaded but they're few and far between.

The guitar playthrough for Cellar Door showed itās got some cool shit in it though. More than I thought. A lot of times these days he is actually doing some neat stuff under the surface. Definitely pursuing the Courtney Canvas
