yeah if you've ever had a loved one addicted to heavy drugs, you know there's pretty much no way of getting them off of that shit. a guy from my high school football team got so addicted to meth and crack that he literally started stealing and scrapping cars after high school, and has been to rehab more times than he has teeth in his mouth. im pretty sure he's "started over" probably 10 times by now.

Caught up with Weiland eventually too
He lasted longer, looked ‘cleaner’…but still in the end no.

Checked this out on a rec from Doof. Only gave a couple spins so far but I’m not sure what I think of it. I’ve obviously heard some AIC songs before and I’ve never loved Staley’s voice in those songs and ironically I think it like it even less in the context of songs that are instrumentally more up my alley. “Nutshell” is impressive but aside from that I prefer the two Cantrell songs (“Don’t Follow” is a great Neil Young song) and the instrumental to Staley’s other tracks.

staley got the best voice tho

His voice is technically impressive for sure but I really hate how affected it sounds.

yeah man if you can’t get into Staley’s second half on Don’t Follow idk what to tell you, band might just not be for you. To me that might be his best vocal performance.
Tho since you like the Jerry parts definitely check out his three solo records. The new one is okay, but Degradation Trip is a fucking monster and Boggy Depot is pretty good too

The new Cantrell one is the most country though

By far, kinda why I didn’t really care too much for it. Atone, Siren Song, Black Hearts and Evil Done, and that Elton cover are great though

Haven't gotten around to listening to the Cantrell record. Gonna try and do that today.

Like Doof said, it’s his most country by far. If I remember right there was really only one rock-ish song and it veered dangerously close into dad rock territory

You're recommending stuff for Boney aka Sput's king of country ;)
It's all close to dad rock I guess but it's tasteful and all that, dude looks ancient anyway so time to saddle up to those Neil Young'isms - song writing is pretty good. It's his most consistent...but the high points are higher on Boggy and Degradation

“Boney aka Sput's king of country ;)”
Explains why we haven’t crossed paths much lol
I definitely disagree about it being his most consistent, but like you said he’s getting old, he was bound to head in this direction sooner or later and I don’t blame him one bit.
Man’s given me thirty years of music that I love, he can do whatever he wants and I’ll at least give it a shot. Hell, I own the album on vinyl lol

Should note that I came around to this. :D Staley’s vocal style still isn’t my fave but I can appreciate in on most songs here.

Swing on This rules, and is a nice reprieve from how dark the rest of this sounds

I love it. It’s probably my least favorite here but I love it.
And I’m glad to hear it Boney. This is probably my favorite EP.

Sean Kinney doesn't get enough credit. Everyone always talks about Matt Cameron but damn... no excuses grooves hard as fuck

Agreed ^ Sean is also the unsung hero of the Unplugged. Takes a lot of skill.
