You have both melodrama and PH at a 4 tho, so which early Lorde are you talking about

PH! Wouldn't count anything after that as early Lorde

Yes but what I meant was why is only early Lorde relevant to the comparison when she seemingly hasn't fallen off in your eyes after PH

Oh my bad - because imo PH has a certain amount in common with this stylistically, whereas Melodrama doesn't (unless you count the try hard badass vibe on Homemade Dynamite or that awkward every night I live and die verse in Perfect Places)

Don't get me wrong, I dig it when it's on - but those lyrics are mid-tier cringe

So looking back, imma revise that claim lol - first verse is all good, but the first pre-chorus is the iffy one:

Are you lost enough?
Have another drink, get lost in us
This is how we get notorious, oh
'Cause I don't know
If they keep tellin' me where to go
I'll blow my brains out to the radio, oh

Coming off the back of an album that works best when it shoots for a half-wry, half-glum personal voice, this strikes me as contrived and cliched, especially when you look at how Sober handled a similar tone far more articulately. Perfect Places is still bangs for days, but I think she did herself a disservice with that part

Gotcha, if I'm remembering correctly she didn't even like that part much

Just read a tweet that said her mom is the voice actress that played Samara in Mass Effect 2 and 3

This album sucks balls. I tried to like it. Part of me cant believe it's so popular, but the pessimist in me isn't surprised. I saw a Reddit post that summed up her look "is she trying to be an emo man or a gangster?" She says she wears that so she isn't sexualised, yet has blatant lyrics about sex "I might seduce your dad type".I don't hate her, but I don't think she deserves the limelight she's getting.

The fan singing, the mumbling, the crappy "plant vs zombies-esque 'eerie' melodies. Wtf? Not good.

Album blends together and imo Billie doesn't really challenge herself at all on this. I understand where she is going with her style of singing, but once 3-4 songs of this goes by, it gets so old.

Production is solid though, mostly why this is at a 2 for me.
