Raw bm has become my fav bm subgenre over the years. The lofi production adds heavily to the atmospheres of many albums and gives them a certain edge.

I'm sure maybe it'll grow on me over time but it's pretty rough at times. I think it's also me being more into dm then bm as a whole but that's not to say I don't enjoy black metal because I obviously do.

Try giving Kekht Arakh a shot. His stuff is lofi but there's tons of melody and folk/gothic influences everywhere.

I'll keep that in mind and probably listen sometime within the next month. Catching up on a lot of bands I'm not too familiar with in discogs and revisiting old stuff too.

Same tbh. Hard to balance new stuff with classics/favorites.

Yeah, that's for damn sure. I barely even keep up with new music unless it's bands I am familiar with or it really catches my eye.

so i'm giving it a go and, varg's vocals are def way less insufferable here. but i'm not into the guitar tone. it's so treble-y it made me think the bass wasn't there at all but i randomly noticed it halfway through "jesus' tod". the guitar and the bass are so separated in the mix.

did lars ulrich tell varg to mute his own bass parts too? bc this is 2 steps away from AJFA-levels of lack of bass

no way in hell this ambient track needed to be THIS long (i'm 7 minutes in and it feels like nothing's happened) but it sounds like some everquest background music

That's pretty much how I feel anytime I hear an ambient song lol

like dgmw i like ambient, i just think switching up the melodies and doing new motifs would keep me on my toes. this is just doing NOTHING. it's one melody repeated over the course of nearly a half hour - textbook definition of samey. and pure ambient is usually best served as background music imo.
