Or, you know, you can download it and put it on your phone, so you can listen with earphones. No money wasted -unless you decide you do want to buy it- and you have it wherever.

I wouldn't even know how & my phone was probably capable once upon a time but it's old & rubbish now. Apps no longer run on it but guessing you could still download music like you can with an iPod.

in fact, the only reason i listened to it like 4 times was because i was hoping it would grow on me. i think i used up its replay value after the second listen.

Yeah, some. I can usually tell which albums those are. Ill listen to it and there will be something there that i cant explain that keeps me coming back. Theres nothing here for this, i just find it kind of boring. Besides, im very familiar with Mastodon, and their sound here is fairly straightforward and accessible, so its not like an acquired taste or anything. I think this is a pretty immediate record. Also, something that grows on you actually grows. You like it more each listen. This is the opposite. Listening to it again sounds like a chore.

I disagree somewhat with it being a chore. It feels like a whirlwind compared to the slog that is The Hunter, which felt like stop-and-go traffic with its terribly organized tracks.

Why people bash an album such as "The Hunter" which is so expertly crafted ? plus, it was the only logical step for the band to take after cts

This is definitely their most emotional album since CTS and I think that's why it stands out to me. It's not as exciting as Blood Mountain or Leviathan, but at least it feels genuine even if the music isn't groundbreaking.

junkie I don't know about it being the only logical step, but The Hunter is an excellent album with some of their strongest songs. It's not better than any of the previous Mastodon albums though. It does get pretty inconsistent at times but there's only a couple duds.

The Hunter had a couple of excellent songs & a fair amount of boring dross, OMATS was a more consistent listen but the enjoyment 'celing' was very low for me, hardly anything memorable about it at all. I'm still intrigued by this one mainly because of the comparisons to CTS but I'm also apprehensive to the point where I still haven't dared to check it out through the fear of disappointment. Which I realise is a little silly on my part but still...
