"sorry -- i mean that his marketting and persona hinges on him being black and queer, but he doesn't invest thought or reality or stickiness into either, content instead with kinda sweeping platitudes and romantic soul"

I don't see the problem here

imagine believing this lmfao a minute fraction of his audience even takes either of those traits into account when listening to his music. he sings of universal emotions and experiences regardless of pronouns, thats why people latch on to his music.

I see a problem. Specifically the additional 't' in 'marketing'.

how can you engage with this album, tho... that's the big question.

There's nothing here that inspires something in me but a droning dullness.

Exactly, and that applies to Flower Boy too imo.

Just because they're black and gay doesn't mean they have to be Kevin Abstract

if anything the argument that being gay is at the forefront of an artist/groups marketing strategy it's brockhampton for sure, it's been a big part of their music from day one

not frank ocean

(im not criticizing brockhampton/kevin abstract for that either, just following wine's logic)

"Wine's Logic" sounds like a song one of these conscious rapper would do about behaviour under influence...

3.0 for me means "fine" or "decent"

3.5 is "good"

2.5 is "okay"
