Those would make my top 5 on here, along with Rubicon and (L)MIRL

Album Rating: 3.5
Phantom Bride, Hearts/Wires, and Prayers/Triangles are substantially better than the rest of the album.

(L)MIRL is like a spiritual successor to Cherry Waves. One of the best on here.

Hard 4. I've had that spaced out intro to (L)MIRL stuck in my head with the underwater chorus riff. One of my favorite parts of the album

it's just so hard for me to look past the fact that phantom bride has the worst damn lyrics of any song i've heard in 2016. so, so fucking cheesy and juvenile.
also hearts/wires is like a way more generic entombed. i do not understand the love for it in the slightest.
i think rubicon, p/t, (l)mirl, gore, and acid hologram are the only songs i really care for on the album

Rubicon's the best song on here.

Deftones aren't all about the riffs but sorry I think the fact there are so few unique sounding riffs here is an indication of general malaise. Genuinely powerful and inspired riffs aren't easy to come up with - far easier to just have a more general chug that's faintly reminiscent of past ones
Nothing here leaps out at you like a 'Hexagram', 'Elite' or 'Royal'. Pretty 'by numbers' fare

Hearts/Wires is so painfully generic agreed Gyro.

doomed user has grown on me hard. wasn't digging how dissonant chino's vocals were at first but it's a banger

yeah rubicon is the best song by a huge margin tbh
you guys notice how some of these songs end with the most generic breakdowns ever? like... phantom bride: in the last minute the guitars come in and i'm like 'oh shit it's about to get nuts!' but nope, it goes absolutely nowhere

I could tell by the like/dislike ratio on Fantano's video that he tore this apart. Though he said he disliked Diamond Eyes, so...I immediately found myself disagreeing with him.

@Gyro what lyric in that song could possibly make you say that? If anything that's such an overstatement man idk.

I just read the lyrics and I have absolutely no problem with them. It doesn't deserve that title at all. I mean, it's no masterpiece, but cmon now.

The lyrics aren't bad but they just feel dull and cliched compared to other Deftones work. When (L)Mirl and H/W opened I cringed a little because of the words. Chino said that he hates lyrics that make you listen to someone's problems or opinions. He likes cryptic lyrics that inspire imagery and landscapes, often dipping into the fantasy realm, yet he seems to have abandoned them a bit on this record.
It's what makes songs like Prince, Royal , Knife Party , Deathblow etc. special. They don't have a distinctive meaning and It's up to the listener to figure it out. There's a sense of mystery involved.
Again, the lyrics here aren't bad. But are a step-back for them. At least how I see it. There are a couple of great songs here lyrics wise still.
