The bass in that one section of Literal Black Cloud by Intronaut is like the only other moment in metal that comes close to scratching that same itch for me (~3:00 in)

The fucking DRUMS on that part too…
|
| |
I can’t remember if the bass tone is that sick the whole album or not but yeah

Never got into Intronaut. They’re great players but their being so technically adept always seemed at odds with the ethos of the genre (timbre and texture over technique). It creates a really odd tension in their music that I don’t think I was ever quite able to parse.

Outside of that album I’d agree but that album is amaze balls

I think neurosis drummer is better

Mosquito Control and Red Sea both slay, too. glad they included those in Live VI.

Firdous E Bareen especially is very foreboding and hazey
|
| |
That’s a big reason I love this one, it has a lot of really spacey and ethereal sections that serve as downtime between the heavier parts. Plus the more tribal drumming gives it a unique vibe compared to the others

Agreed, this album does have its own distinctive vibe that sets it appart from previous ISIS albums.

The groove at like 1:50 of Not in Rivers is *chefs kiss. The drumming on this album is probably more interesting than any other Isis album.
