Damn I'm listening to this album and I seriously cannot believe how good it is. No wonder I rated it
5. There are some great subtle moments like the intro to Radiant Eclipse that make this such a
balanced album.

i just find city of evil has so much more energy, more memorable riffs and lines and much more solid and focused songwriting and musicianship.

More energy, yes. That doesn't really mean a thing to me though. I find the riffs here miles and miles
ahead of what is on City of Evil. The pace and rythm are incredible.
Demi, how many times have you listened to City of Evil? I used to think it was their best, but time
revealed a lot to me. If you really have a clear picture of their albums then I respect your view. I
think the community ratings speak for themselves, though.
Interestingly, I still have City of Evil at 3.5 since I still enjoy it somewhat.

i honestly haven't listened to the whole thing in years, but i have listened to most of the songs very recently (past few days) and i don't think it sounds aged if thats what youre talking about. mind you it wasn't one of my most spun albums even back in the day, album is a strong 3.5, maybe a 4.

By the way, back to the comparison discussion. You stated, "so much more energy, more memorable
riffs and lines and much more solid and focused songwriting and musicianship," all of which I agree
with (besides the riffs part).
To me, the intense combination of those points actually take away from the album, not make it
better. City of Evil is so condensed and focused that is sounds a bit corny. In other words, less
mature (not saying it is immature to like the album, though). There are longer breaks for repose in
Waking the Fallen. There is screaming accompanied by very good sounding clean vocals instead of just
clean vocals that, again, sound a bit corny in City of Evil.
I think my main concern is not the subject of what is good with City of Evil, but what is wrong with
Waking the Fallen. That, I don't understand. I guess it is your taste for metal and not metalcore.

that's exactly it- i dont mind cheese metal, at all. in fact im used to it. to me, a lot of the riffs on here just sound like generic metalcore.

'I guess it is your taste for metal and not metalcore.'
definitely the case with me

It is much slower here, I think is why. The slow pace gives the riffs more groove. There are fast
songs though, but not consistently fast like most metalcore.

nothing interesting in the least. they even manage to fuck up songs with potential (the chorus to beast and the harlot is awful). and seize the day sucks as much as dear god.
