Not really metalcore anymore, but who cares by which name one might baptize it. It's a decent effort, brutal yet not disgusting, some great riffs. I'd give it a 3.5 but it's a 4 simply because this album has amazingly great lyrics yet without trying to sound complex..."some deep shit." At least one sentence in every song would make a truly great quote, which is more than I can say for hundreds of metal albums I've listened to.

EDIT: Funny, have they suddenly gone atheists? I never knew all of them were Christians, but this album has so many quotes against God and religion, it's more of an atheist album than any Nile or Dimmu Borgir album. Things like "In my convictions I've found my own grave, But amongst the dead we all fade away" "In looking to the end weve lost sight of where to begin." "We are void of purpose before we start. For in chasing our destination the present state is sacrificed. In looking to the end we have lost sight of where to begin." especially: "While religion tries to blame what we cannot see, I accept that part of the problem is me. It was never a sacred mandate to accept conformity, Through select revelations that we choose to believe." "Another blind guide replacing divine eyes." "Familiarity is the great deception, disguised by authority, sealing out subversion.

Whitewashed tombs have hidden the truth, for we unknowingly worship icons of ordinary life." etc

Cryogenix: theyre still a christian band. some of the lyrics look anti-christian, but theyre not.

"In my convictions I've found my own grave, But amongst the dead we all fade away"

he means that after living as a christian in this life, he will fade away (go to heaven) amongst the dead, along with all the others that followed god, and the ones who didnt follow god remain dead, or in hell.

"While religion tries to blame what we cannot see, I accept that part of the problem is me. It was never a sacred mandate to accept conformity, Through select revelations that we choose to believe."

he means that some believers blame their actions on the devil, or on others. hes also saying that gods word never demanded conformity, and some believers decide to only believe certain teachings, and if they dont like a part of it they act like it doesnt exist.

"Another blind guide replacing divine eyes."

this line has to do with corrupt pastors, preachers, etc. could also have to do with confessing your sins to a priest, which would be useless because youre supposed to talk to god, not some person, about the outcome of your afterlife.

"Familiarity is the great deception, disguised by authority, sealing out subversion.

Whitewashed tombs have hidden the truth, for we unknowingly worship icons of ordinary life."

this seems to have something to do with having idols. for example, if some little girl is obsessed with hanna montanna, shes got her posters up, her music playing all the time, she's basically worshipping her, when the bible warns not to have any other gods.

Maybe they're smart Christians who realize that religion is a personal thing and that they shouldn't worship the church.

exactly. i think a lot of their lyrics on this album have to do with the hypocrisy of a lot of believers, and how many things in the Catholic religion follow customs and rules that arent even in the bible.

I hate religion as much as the next guy, but how it is hypocrisy in itself?
