I picked up a box set called The Candlelight Years, its a shame because it was an impulse buy and I don't really like their first albums.

It had all of this exotic Japanese labeling on the plastic wrap that I tore off...

I prefer MAYH and Still Life, but totally understand why someone would consider this their best (like a few of my friends). This album is sooooo fucking good, Akerfeildt is a monster on this album

Sweet. Yeah I really prefer the atmosphere/raw production on MAYH, but this is my favorite 'proggy' Opeth album. Every song is stellar.

agreed Lucca, MAYH is my favorite too. their atmosphere and songwriting is at their peak there. but this def rules hard too, considered 5ing this for a while.

it's an awesome album, but it's just missing something that MAYH and Still Life had. just a little something.

Mayh has atmosphere, still life has musicianship, ghost reveries has the proggyness done right (unlike watershed and heritage imo)
