I agree, even if it's just like each vocalist gets 4 songs for a 12 song album

I love the Tree City Sessions and I just relistened to Carl Barker and paid specific attention to tillian's parts. I agree he could have a little bit more passion, but I still think he sounds great on it.

People who think Tillian is the best frontman for this band clearly has a soft spot in their skull from being dropped down a flight of stairs repeatedly.

Or just a different taste in singers, either works

I actually dig mess' vocals on this best. He was good on death star too

I think Mess' vocals now are more refined, but yeah, there was a bit more personality on this and death star. Backwards Pumpkin Song is still one of the best songs the band has ever written.

Agreed on the Tree City version of Carl Barker being pretty lame. Kurt's performance on the original was absolute gold.

Jonny Craig is an amazing vocalist but if I were sixteen still and with my huge Anthony green boner I would probably dig Tillian too
In fact, self titled was my first dgd album and the first time I heard this I think I preferred Kurt.
I fell in love with this because the music was so fucking dense and fun to unravel, and the brilliance of Craig's range and runs didn't shine thru till a few months in

I believe Mess had an operation some time between Deathstar & Happiness where he had his tonsils removed- hence the change in voice.
Anyway,
IMHO, DBM1 is probably one of the greatest masterpieces in rock music of all time.

Such an annoying singer. Band is decent, though.
|

Does a tonsil removal really change a person's voice that much? I had mine removed a few years ago but I'd say my voice has pretty much been the same. I always thought it was just due to him improving his screaming technique.
