So that bass in the little build up near the end of Hand Of The Host is pretty damn chilling. Always loved how he used that thing.

Sorry spork, didn't mean to come off as dismissive. I just wanted to point out the recurrent theme of post metal bands with feminine names and was too lazy to really go into detail. Probably shouldn't have posted at all.

I kinda like that concept though. Isis, Rosetta and Cult Of Luna do show a more gentler side of metal a lot so it just seems right.

I guess I never really thought about the "feminist" theme in post-metal. But these days, people will stretch pretty far just to call something feminist. Idk I just like the music

Rosetta claims they chose the name for its femininity and beauty.
Cult of Luna's is pretty self-explanatory.
Some Aaron Turner quote that's relevant to the discussion: "I just think it's interesting to include that as part of what we do, simply because metal, especially, is considered to be this very male-oriented, testosterone-driven art form, and I feel like it's important to recognize the other side of our nature. As manly as we might or might not be, we have to acknowledge that there is a feminine part of our persona, and that the world isn't made up of absolutes. To achieve balance, you have to recognize every facet of yourself and everyone else around you."
However, as long as we're talking about broad themes in the genre, I usually associate this genre with macro-level themes more than femininity. Politics, philosophy, religion, society, entropy, geography, forces of nature, etc.

politics yea but they always play a very hidden aspect to the music
like Cult of Luna's The Beyond had its political themes scattered around. Panopticon's was more obvious but not throughout the whole album either.

remember seeing these guys open for tool....they were actually better than them barring stage production and intentional volume controls

I saw one of their final shows when they were supporting Melvins. After the opening band, Buzzo came out and announced that they were deferring the headline slot to Isis out of respect for it being their farewell tour. That was pretty classy.
