omg get over it. Many people like BTBAM. Many. And Metallica>Megadeth for many reasons brah get it right, seriously enough with the BTBAM stuff, using it as an example for every argument is boring. You bore me now. bored. My servant shall now flame you

Technicality doesn't equal good songwriting. I love Megadeth but they are massively focused around the guitar, to the detriment of the rest of the music (from an objective standpoint). I mean, that's why they are so awesome, because they just fuck songwriting off and write badass riffs and solos.

I sometimes enjoy the more technical approach. I can sit down and love an album like "Pink Moon", "Highway 61 Revisited" or "Midnight Organ Fight" where the songwriting is the focus, but I also enjoy the more experimental types of music where the song structures are disjointed or odd and everything else can be atypical. For example, bands like BTBAM, King Crimson, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and The Dillinger Escape Plan are less about constructing focused songs with nice melodies, but rather creating tunes that are about experimentation and structure.

Yeah I agree. It adds variety to music as a whole.

^haha but some people automatically discredit bands like BTBAM or CTTS because of the structure or style of their music. Nothing wrong with being pretentious at all. It's just a style.

i dont think ctts is great, but i dont think they are trash. i think btbam are superb at instruments, but they dont seem like they are playing with any soul

@five, but again, like I said, that's not the point of their music. Songs like "White Walls" and "Backwards Marathon" are simply metalcore songs that go beyond by experimenting and messing with the structure. And yeah, so its flashy. So what? The point of their music is technicality and experimentation, it has never been writing a meaningful song about losing a loved one. They write some great instrumental parts, and are clearly at the top of their genre in terms of skill and diversity, and I really do love the concept of a prog metalcore band juxtaposing genres the way they do. But again, I'm a sucker for anything technical for the most part, as a composer and guitarist myself.
