@ MillionDead I do the same lol but most people find metalcore to be a dirty word for whatever reason. I remind myself that metalcore was well established before it descended into the cringe its most well known for and its less syllables in conversation so I'm using it
Also agreed that like 90% of melodeath is kind of boring

Funny you say that because most people say the same thing about melodeath (including me to a degree). But yeah, old school 90's melodeath is where it's at. Not to say there isn't a cool new album every now and then, but for the most part, the older style is pretty much dead.

I really need to do my research into some lesser known 90s bands. My favorite melodeath records are Nocturnal and Heartwork

Nocturnal, Heartwork and a few DT albums are all v good. The Jester Race is the only In Flames I enjoy really. Quo Vadis's Day Into Night is up there and may usurp that whole group. Inferi have some decent material
honestly, my fave melodeath album is by Imperial Circus Dead Decadence. Even typing their name out in full is giving me serious cringe, then there's the red flag artwork and whatever the hell the lore is, but man, their latest album is ridiculously good fun!
I don't always look for the same things in melodeath as I do regular death metal (altho the "heaviness" certainly helps satisfy in Nocturnal's case, for instance)

without wanting to descend into the genre debate again, give me gourmet the real thing, or something completely different
Intestine Baalism is solid, but the appeal feels adjacent to 'regular' DM (so I'd rather just jam that instead)
you're certainly not getting many OSDM flavas etc. from ICDD I can assure you, lol... again, probably why it appeals when in a certain mood

Intestine Baalism is sick, so is Carcass on Heartwork, though I prefer their grind shit. I also love The Jester Race despite not having interest in listening to any of In Flames' newer shit. Still need to check out Whoracle (stupid ass name) and Colony one of these days.
@jr: Yeah, metalcore is just an easier short hand.

Yeah, there's a lot of cheese around, but there are also lots of gems to find if you're looking.

Agreed hard. The cheese is what got me into extreme metal in the first place.

Art of Life by X Japan is one of the only power albums I like, but I really love that one.
