This is their worst one but still a 4/5, and mayh is amazing

Nah I disagree Damnation is pretty awesome and Watershed and Heritage aren't too shabby.
|
| |
I admit it does annoy me when Opeth elitists always cite MAYH as the default best Opeth album but it is really awesome.

It's all personal preference but honestly all their albums are great I love them all for different reasons

Yeah well it's way more elitist to cite orchid or morningrise as their best

Watershed is solid. This and damnation however, I feel are average bar a couple of songs which just about bump it up to a 3

Those and heritage are their worst but still great. Watersheds three metal epics are amazing but the rest doesn't really hold up except maybe hex or coil

Oh yeah and obviously Heritage is very average. Coil > Burden; so beautiful. First three tracks on that might stand out the most, but I thought that it everything else was solid, just not holding up to the first 3. Nice to see them try a slightly different style that sadly led to Heritage

what I like best about it and why I consider it their best is it is a transition album through and through. from morningrise to MAYH the difference is so stark and the feeling MAYH gives me is something I haven't gotten from any other Opeth album. the songs are all top notch, akerfeldts growls are beast and even the softer songs still carry a very eerie feel (credence is ominous as fuk) and not just soft songs for the sake of soft songs.
Opeth at their heaviest

I just hope the new one leans a little more to their early 00's style but just without growling. But it probably won't

I don't care how unoriginal the opinion BWP #1 always
|
| |
I hope the new Opeth is as dark and emotional as what has been said about it so far. The last thing we need is more of Opeth tributing 70's prog. Go back to being Opeth...albeit without the growls.

SILENT DANCE WITH DEATH. EVERYTHING IS LOOOOOOST.
Fucking layered growls. Doesn't get any better than that for Opeth for vocals

My favorite is BWP because I'm a pleb m/
see, this is the stupid shit people say around here bc the "elitists" will shit on you if say something other than the "accepted elitist favorite" is a band's best work. nothing wrong with liking bwp. its my fav too. its just as valid an opinion as mayh or orchid or still life or even fucking heritage
|
| |
Yeah, BWP is my favourite and I've never been afraid to say that in the face of both Opeth and prog elitists.
|
| |
Watershed Is my favorite. I don't know what's wrong with me.
