Yeah Blue Lines was really cool but the only track that comes close to Mezzanine is U.S.

Protection is a direct advancement of Blue Line's sound, both are chill out.

Really what I'm saying is that picking one over the other is arbitrary

allow me to guide you how to feel about this review, it's half-right and half-safely-ignorable. the DJ Shadow pimp should tell you this is an old skool crate digging purist, who prefers the "timelessly" familiar of Endtroducing to what was and still is, a landmark layering of sound that basically created the blueprint for people like fuck buttons and burial. (both better and more forward thinking than Shadow, as evidenced by the latter's disappearing act after his (very minor) classic/
5/0 period

ask yourself why guys like TVOTR, Burial, Run the Jewels and more are banging down the door STILL to work with 3d? while shadow is lucky if micky Avalon returns his texts these days
bc you cant bullshit talent

That said, there is a LOT of spottiness after Mezza. But usually at least 3-4 aces to make it worth it. And ritual is front to back perfect.
Menacing, tuneful, not old tricks, gorgeously produced. Alive.
ps if u think Maxinquaye is better go listen to the music again. way more boilerplate triphoppy

I'm going through his discog actually - Nearly and Pre-Millennium Tension aren't as amazing as Maxinquaye but definitely great, agree they're underrated.
