Nah, I get the feeling they'd ruin it if they tried. Leave part 2 untarnished

Their concept albums have usually been their best and least embarrassing though. I think it gives them focus and plays to their strengths. Maybe not a Metropolis 3 but some kind of concept would be a nice change of pace. Because for all this bands strengths, they really do have a hard time focusing on consistent songwriting and music that has a point as opposed to endless wankery and extended soloing

Yeah, they don't write childish lyrics, but I think Portnoy had quite a big role in that. I suppose it's just easier and more fun to do the wanky stuff, and it's still relatively well received by die hard fans, so they don't see anything wrong with it

I just mean the way they're written sounds childish "I am yours dark master" and all that bs. And these ignorant new fans who haven't heard anything before Octavarium praising worshipping these new albums aren't making things any better

I DO FIIIIIIIIIIGHT FOR YOOOOOOUUUU... DAARK MAAAASSTTTTTUUUUUUUUURRRR

Fuck sake Petrucci, you're better than that.

Well, DT are a good introductory to metal or prog metal, so I think people listen to that without realising that there's better and they've done better.

It's just annoying that all their RR albums are the ones that are the most popular and accessible to potential new fans

And then they say something like Constant Motion is the best shit ever and it's so revolutionary

It's ok, we can keep I&W and Metropolis pt.2 for ourselves.

yeah whats up with new dt fans not knowing anything old? i guess its cause there's so much shitty bands influecing new dt that the folks who like those shitty bands just think "wow finally a bunch of 50 year olds are understanding MY MUSIC"

what dt really need to do is sit in the studio for a month or two listenin to nothin but 80s and early 90s metal and 70s prog (and i guess marillion too) and say no to radiohead, muse, tool, opeth too and especially periphery and shit and realize why they started in the first place

after some reflection we should have some decent music

But did no one tell them about I&W or Metropolis? I think they're just ignorant listeners tbh. If they loved DT and those albums that much, they would definitely explore the earlier albums

Yeah, I know a guy who thinks ADTOE and Octavarium are the best albums in history... Made him listen

to Scarred. At first he was like, where's the solo? Enter solo and I'm the one who laughs now...

"where's the solo"

How could Octavarium possibly be the best album in history when I Walk Beside you is on it?

I haven't met any DT fans outside my family. Know one guy who wears a ToT shirt to school but that's just about it
