The band have definitely been through about three or four stylistic phases.

I'd say you could put half their material loosely into maybe three general song templates they like to work with though :D

This would take research and before this album I hadn't intensely listened to Deftones for probably close to fifteen years, but some light recycling was definitely happening by Diamond Eyes and it only increased from there.

You’re not wrong there

SNW is distinct to me so idk if I can lump the album, but you have your Be Quiet/Sextape-type songs for sure

True, SNW had some new ideas.

An album like KNY on the other hand was more about putting their established approach through a new stylistic filter, not that that is a bad thing as such, it's a totally viable artistic choice. Might have repeated that move a couple of times too often for me but they've never resorted to releasing slop in what is now quite a long career.

Bumping this from a 3.5 to a 4 today. I find the songs coming back to my mind a lot more than I thought they would. It's a very good album.

As a non-fan of the band just going through their discog now, I kinda think this & Koi No Yokan are better than White Pony. I get that WP probably was insane at the time but these two just seem higher quality, front to back.

Koi has been my favorite for as long as I’ve been a fan of the band tbh

Yeah as a relative newcomer I never cared that much for WP. I liked Koi, SNW and DE a lot more.

White Pony still fucking rules but it’s got a couple of tracks I don’t particularly love.

Digital Bath, Change, Pink Maggit, and Passenger are all timers tho

I’d go so far as to say that those four are better than pretty much anything here

Infinite Source and Cut Hands were nice surprises. The former being their best song in 15 years.

…but pretty much everything here is better than Elite, Strest Carp, and definitely mini Maggit if we’re counting that

I’d take a few over RX Queen and Teenager too, so…🤷‍♂️
