Agree with Crimson Stone at least, that song is fucking masterful man.

I think you could cut Flower Moon, Scorpion Sting, and maaaaaaybe Tongues Playing Dead and you’d have a better record. Scorpion Sting just feels like a Hiss Spun era b side and Tongues Playing Dead feels like a b side from any of the last four Converge records, and I don’t even know what they were going for with Flower Moon. Like, maybe going for an alt metal sound? But even then Failure Forever is much better on that front.

I’m also just not crazy about long records. I think if an album is an hour plus it needs to justify it, and I don’t think this one does. You trim a little fat and we’re back into the 45 minute-ish range, which just feels much more appealing to me.

Viscera of Men is also such a weird song. It’s like they knew Ben was falling asleep in the studio so they let him go off for the first 20 seconds. Still a wicked (and downright haunting) track but goddamn, structurally I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything like it. Just fucking weird man lol

crimson stone is really the one that stood out to me. i think it's mostly just an experiment that didn't fully pay off. it's a little all over the place for sure. felt like they probably had a good 4 songs and stretched the thing to a record when the more atmospheric cuts would've been a solid ep.

sometimes things you think would go together just don't. feels like that is the case here. i'm just surprised because converge is so good at going longer and atmospheric so i thought i'd love this. guess just too much wolfe for me and it almost feels like converge didn't have as much input as she did. something is just missing.
