But to be honest, I think I almost always would prefer rawer sounding performances versus more produced ones on recordings, even in genres where production is a key part

It just completely depends on the band for me.

But I’m not an audiophile either, as long as the production isn’t a complete mess I’m usually good with it. And even then, good songwriting can save a horribly produced album. Gore, for example.

Every band will tell you they'd love to tour a record first and then release it (like some bands used to do pre internet), not the other way round. Playing them hundereds of times obviously makes the songs better.

I'm a bit sceptical about the new album though. Written while on tour, recorded in stints inbetween tours, cancelled a tour to actually get work done... Not the best of circumstances around this one. I also do think they need a second guitarist. As good as the audiotree is, I think it shows there as well.

damn i had the exact opposite takeaway from the audiotree... they pull off their sound with just one guitar pretty amazingly there. would even go as far as to say they sound even better without all the overdubs i'm sure are on this record. same thing with the harsh vox they sounded so much better without all the effects on them

i honestly didn't even know they had just one guitarist until like a month ago

not to say this album sounds bad by any means but there's so much window dressing on here that i'm shocked to find they're actually better without it (vs. being propped up by it).

Didn’t they lose a guitarist recently or was that their bassist

Yeah Connor left over a year ago who was the second guitarist

Hoping Erik was the main creative influence which would make sense as he also does the additional vocals and lead melodic vocals

Their original bassist left after recording The Cold Sun. Their 2nd guitarist left after this album, his post as to why kinda sounded like he was bullied.

I'm hoping they release a single during this summer tour they're doing. they've been saying they're "almost done" recording the new album for a while now.
