just gotta accept opeth have reached the end of their creative lifecycle and be thankful for what we got honestly. hoping for another still life is just gonna end in disappointment.
also figuring out how to get your avatar is a rite of passage on sputnik, we cannot help you.

You say Justin Bieber? I say Steven Wilson.
You say Selena Gomez? I say Prince.
You say Lady Gaga? I say Metallica.

Why the hell didnt Wilson produce this? Imagine how good some of the quieter moments would've sounded on here with him onboard.

Wilson should produce every album tbh

He's certainly a better producer than he is a singer or lyricist, that's for damn sure

Nuclear Blast are the worst.
The compression on here is horrible, really damages the impact of the 'heavier' cuts.

Pros of Steven Wilson:
- amazing producer
- talented instrumentalist
- good composer
- knows how to get great musicians in his bands
Cons of Steven Wilson:
- bad vocals
- bad lyrics
Overall, the good outweighs the bad imo.
And yeah, Nuclear Blast have a bad habit of ruining every good band tbh

Wilson's vocals are fine, his compositional work is far better tho.

Yeah, his vocals are alright. Really, the lyrics are the one thing he's not so hot at. And even then, he still pulls out some good lines on occasion

Agreed production on here sucks hard. It totally throttles the potential of the record.

"I'm tired of Facebook..." but honestly the last two songs on Raven, most of Up the Downstair, TSMS, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, and other examples show how great Wilson's lyrics can be. If anything he's just an inconsistent lyricist.
Also those who think FoaBP has bad lyrics need to understand the concept of that album. Not that I'm defending the whole section about Xbox lol, that probably could have been cut.

I think The Raven as a whole has really great lyrics. Back then I thought he finally figured it out, but he proved me wrong pretty fast, hahah. HCE has some really good verses too though, especially in Ancestral.
And he's pretty consistent as a vocalist imo, but never amazing

His voice doesn't have tons of range or character but it's good. I think he's trying to push himself on To the Bone given some of the singles. GfD has a lot of great lyrics too.

Wilson hits the right notes always but is emotionally vacant.

I was talking about Wilson but I highly doubt that nonetheless lol

I don't know how someone could say Wilson's vocals are emotionally vacant if you've heard The Raven that Refused to Sing, Routine, I Drive the Hearse, Heartattack in a Lay-By, or Arriving Somewhere but not Here.

Yeah they rule, and everything about that song is amazing.
Also that endearing quote I posted at the last page is actually from Happy Returns. He just loves to have trains in his songs. Tunaboy recently made a list about it.

The Wilde Flowers isn't as bad as most people said imo, never heard this in full tho.
