Retrace is amazing yeah, god I love that verse so much. Breaking is such a fun song too. Most of NS undoes the Cities' maturity but then some of the tracks are so much fun

"I remember loving that whole album so much and then it just died all of a sudden"
I had the exact same thing happen with the Dark/Light album. Now, when I look back on it, I really like a lot of the songs on it, but almost all them do things that bother me at the same time. Impossible is great all the way through, though. I still love Closer even with its repetitive chorus. Those verses though...
I know everyone gushes over fin, but Visu is my favorite closer of theirs.

Dark/Light is by no means bad, but it's got nothing on this.

Blueprints is their worst, but yeah DitW is closer to NS/Blueprints than to NTFP/Cities/Vital

Blueprints is probably the lowest for me too, but it does have Readyfuels, Glass to the Arson, and their cover of Love Song, all which I thoroughly enjoy. It's still a great debut, though.
Fuckin' Foreign Language though... all sorts of not good happening on that song.

Yeah really, no idea what was going on in their heads when they wrote that. It's not like the rest of the album is so bad so it doesn't even register.

Blueprints also has Naïve Orleans which, while profoundly cheesy, is still one of my favorite Anberlin songs
and i still just can't get into basically any part of DitW. The lyrics are super boring by Anberlin standards (Art of War is the most prominent example), everything is SO repetitive (Depraved could have been fantastic if it had more than three lines and two musical ideas), and there's basically no hooks or passion or anything musically compelling. So, basically every aspect of Anberlin's sound fails on that album

But then they came out with this and blew everyone's mind.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, Blueprints really isn't all that bad. It's just Foreign Language.
And I dunno, the lyrics definitely took a hit for some reason, but other parts of the album are great. Art of War is a good example, actually, because in spite of the lyrics, the actual music is absolutely amazing. That intro is sublime.

I think it was a good experiment with u2-ish sound but I really only enjoy Pray Tell, WOITO, Down, and I enjoy Impossible and You Belong Here sometimes. I think one reason I disliked it so much initially was because they said it would be heavier and it really wasn't by any means.

I pretty much dont listen to what a band says their next album will be like, lol. Usually they are full of it.

To be fair, I think Anberlin said this was their heaviest album yet and it was.
But yeah in general I judge an album on its own merits and not on what the band hyped it up to be.
