Ummm... I wouldn't compare what John Lennon said to what Kanye West does. John Lennon wasn't really talking about The Beatles, his point was that religion is dying, and that it's already died so much that a band can have more followers than a religious figure. And he didn't say "bigger," which would imply that he believes they are genuinely more powerful or more important, he said "more popular".

What Kanye West does is straight up call himself the voice of a generation and ruin moments for other people.
