doesn't really go for bergtatt since ulver has always been a trend-following band rather than a trend-setting band. They did black metal after its prime, they did neofolk way after its prime, they did trip hope after its prime, they did industrial after its prime, etc.

Prefer Bergttat personally but ya altho both are bm albums but Bergttat is not straightforward black metal like Norwegian bm in early 90s.
Bergttat has elements of Norwegian folk music, utilising acoustic guitars,violin with melody-focused songwriting and clean vocals.
Bergttat was definitely a different approach to early 90s bm

It's good but a bit overrated in my opinion. I believe if it was release today brand new it wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal as it was back then. A product of the times and popularity due to the drama associated with the band. Again, it's good, but if some other black metal band released this exact same album today it would be just another black metal album.
