Eh, navel gazing and splitting pubes is kinda old
Though I will admit that I probably love this so much specifically because it feels more like "death metal with melody" than your standard string skipping riff abuse

Yeah this isn't melodeath, it's death metal with a melodic undertone, which is also why it's one of the goats

Never got why this was called melodeath either. Metallic hardcore vs metalcore type beat

guess it's because this wouldn't play at Eurovision whereas say Omnium Gatherum could well represent Finland

In Flames would 100% be the Swedish representation for Eurovision if there was anything from metal lol

The God That Never Was is more standard melodeath territory than this.

"Metallic hardcore vs metalcore type beat" I use metalcore and metallic hardcore interchangeably most of the time, but usually only actually use "metallic hardcore" when making a distinction between the Gothenburg-derivative pop shit like All That Remains or booty-buttcore like Asking Alexandria and the real shit like Converge or Botch, of which there is a hard distinction between all of these, but all of them can be described as metalcore accurately. A distinction between melodeath and death metal with melodic undertones doesn't seem so useful when this album is literally death metal that is melodic. How deep do we have to make it? I saw some people in a youtube comment section and making all these distinctions between "deathened" black metal, blackened death and war metal and I just realized how silly I've looked for half my life obsessing over this kinda thing with no material gain whatsoever. I just want to lay down my arms and die in peace.

I remember this was banned in Australia as well as Been Caught Buttering by Pungent Stench. Just looked it up and Tomb of the Mutilated was also banned as was Acts of the Unspeakable. From February 11, 1993 - "Customs officers have raided 20 Sydney music stores this week and seized boxes of “death metal” compact discs and cassettes, banned because of their violent and sexually explicit lyrics".

I've never considered this "traditional" melodeath, yet agreed that dividing everything up into the tiniest subcategories is sometimes tiresome
it's certainly "melodic" and it's "death metal", but that's also why genre names are pretty silly a lot of the time

I guess we can maybe agree that the melodies on this one are a little meaner than on most melodeath records?
|
| |
i mean it’s simple, melodeath bands don’t write songs like bleed for me.
also another way to tell is that this is good which means by definition it can’t be melodeath.
