weird how Lord Worm was the only one (I know of) to ever realize this and then not enunciate any of the lyrics on None So Vile. What a strange take. Picking up the lyrics makes basically everything I listen to better adding slightly more depth

Yeah if I really like a song I'll look up the lyrics and often times it makes me appreciate the song that much more. Usually moreso if it seems like something personal, or like a societal critique or something though. Most metal bands just nerd out with their lyrics or write something straight up comical, nothing really too deep

Yea metal can have some of the most interesting lyrics out there, very weird take. I'm just personally too lazy to care all that much lol. It's always about the riffs for me

can also have some of the most bogus lyrics out there. and I would say the bad metal lyrics far outweigh the great metal lyrics.

As far as metal lyrics, it really depends on what genre we're talking about. Also, depends on what your idea of "good lyrics" is. As far as lyrics that elevate a song for me, something like cannibal corpse will never have that effect. I'm not expecting that out of pretty much any osdm or 2nd wave bm band. Basically, I'm not expecting them to hit any deeper topics, but it could still paint a nice gory scene or something I guess lol

JR Hayes and Lord Worm made all other metal lyricists obsolete with how good their lyrics are. Sometimes they're fun to read into tho, like the lyrics on Nespithe make almost as much sense as the music lol.



Cannibal lyrics were just comically violent and obscene when Barnes wrote all of them but Alex and Paul have toned down on the grotesqueness over the years

That’s with all music. Every genre of music has more subpar music than worthwhile music. The same idea is present with the lyrics. Either way, metal has some of the most diverse, thought provoking, and creative lyrics in all of music if you are willing to find it. Becomes a true art form rather than simply entertainment when executed adequately

If you are going to write “intelligent” lyrics then based on at least one person’s perspective, they will see it as pseudo-intellectual. There’s no winning here. Also Cannibal’s lyrics fit their music perfectly; completely mediocre. At least the lyrics suit the music and they aren’t attempting to be something they’re not
