Patience is rewarding with this one.
Having initially written it off as student windmill bollocks after a few listens I wasn’t quite able to keep away.
Something kept drawing me back whether it be the ‘hill racer’ bit on Concorde or the Bread Song or the finale of Basketball Shoes it’s a fucking brilliant listen.

Nice one zak, this one took some time for me too but revealed itself eventually as a true beaut. It has that “student-y” thing in spots as you note but there’s a real emotional core and a very classic nature to the songwriting that overrides that.

Music is good mostly, vocals still a bit noxious for me - will prob up to a 3 rating at some stage

Indeed Bone. There’s a lot of feeling put into this record. A lot of honesty, very little charade. It goes a long way.
I reckon it’ll nab ya doof. There’s a lot going on here but very very stripped back and for something so ridiculously blatant it takes awhile to find it.

Beautifully put John

Thank god for the quarter-life crisis, the mid-life crisis from you postboomers has more than enough press as it is

After revisiting this it's a pretty huge improvement on their debut

100% agree with this. It was alright but I never think about going back to it. I remember liking the instrumental track though. Ants From Up Here is pretty good and I am intrigued for what their next release will sound like. The Place Where He Inserted the Blade is simply addictive.

I’m actually kinda surprised this is lower on the all time chart on RYM than ‘Igor’ - I will say this is a better album than that one
I’m brewing up to revisiting this, haven’t listened to it in months now, I expect it to get a bump but I might still feel exactly the same
Get the feeling in ten years this’ll either be canonised (top 100 on RYM) or buried (outside top 500)
