what does that poppiness come down to? there's a whole set of specific techniques, chord progressions, and stylistic elements that get followed in the creation of modern mainstream pop to make songs as catchy as they can, but what does that come down to?

there are tons of music theory related elements that make the sound we typically refer to as "poppy," it has to do with the way progressions move and resolve relative to their key, specific types of rhythms, etc. I honestly don't know it well enough to really describe it but it's less subjective than you might think
