I wouldn't say it's actually "pop goes trap" it's just a pop song with a slight trap influence in the instrumental and a clap and is produced by a guy who has made a lot of trap

yeah but it really is just to be expected from an artist as mainstream as Ariana with most of her songs being written by a team of 5-7 people

Noler you can simeutaneously like things that are deep, nuanced, unconventional, and passionate and things that are simply light-hearted, cute, and fun. there is a vast world of pop that is like the former, but getting butthurt about the fact that ~mainstream~ pop do be like it is, and pretending that hollering about it elevates your perspective is passé. when i was 16 and only listened to metal i was making the same ramblings you are now. My taste and knowledge of music is over a decade matured from that time and part of that ride has been lightening up a little bit and not having to treat every piece of music like it needs to be born of pure blood, sweat, tears, and neckbeard cum. there is a time and a place for visceral music and there is a time and a place for big commercial singalong car bops, just like there is a time and a place for the lighthouse and a different time and a place for john wick. not being able to see that doesn't make you have superior taste, it just makes you less fun.

and "trap" ariana is no more and no less commercial than any other ariana anyways, she's been chasing trends her whole career, and just because those trends are marketable doesn't mean other artists you do like aren't also chasing trends within the niche's of their own demographics either.

You bring up John Wick, great example. A purely fun action flick, but still has an incredible attention to detail, a level of finesse, perfect casting. Compare that to Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds.

But you and I both know that recent Ari does have that John Wick finesse. Sure it’s “simple fun” at first glance but the beats are clever and ear-wormy. Vocal harmonies are plugged in at just the right spot. I think her songs even convey an empowering message. You wouldn’t defend her so hard if you didn’t think highly of her work.

I just think the poppier Ariana is, the better. I want singing Ariana, not another pop star trying to be Travis Scott.
