If Sowing's definition of 3.5s were correct that would mean Jeffery by Young Thug is "nothing special" so we'll have to just disregard that one

Checked the singles, more pop rock, less folky, didn't expect that, Kyoto bored me a bit.

KYOTO BORED you a BIT?????
@Sowing I would destroy you for that gif but "Graceland Too" will do it for me anyway (;

I do think Kyoto is the least good of the singles, though it's still very good. Are there many other poppy tracks?

Kyoto is by far the poppiest track I think, but there are other songs that have just as active instrumentation or even surpass it..
|

Kyoto is so wonderful, more songs of her not singing in a wispy monotone I beg you

That rating description is so spot-on. Especially wrt how the low 3s look inviting by nature but by Sput standards they're bleh.
TDAG was a 4.5 for nearly a decade so that's not the example I'd give. Everyone knows it didn't get bumped down for musical reasons.

Listening to the new one now. I was somewhat lukewarm on the opening two but oh goodness the title track is a stunner.
Edit: Yeah, the album is gorgeous through and through. Yet, I can tell it's going to be another slow burn that will grow richer with time. The inclusion of strings on tracks like "Savior Complex" is honestly the best thing she could have done. And the folkier "Graceland Too" is such a pleasant surprise. And then "I Know The End" caughy me completely off-guard in the best way. While this album feels like a warm fire amidst a snowy backdrop, Punisher feels like you're gazing into an endless sea of stars (just like the cover actually).

Yeah Kyoto is the pop track but there's a lot more variation here than before
It's really not a folk album

eh most of the songs sound like A Phoebe Bridgers Song™ + some production techniques to disguise the songwriting. Smoke Signals with some strings isn't all that different from Smoke Signals with some echoey drums
Graceland Too is the exception and my easy favourite cos she's actually writing a different kind of song instead of just gesturing at writing a different kind of song. that one is real nice
