"i love how self-referential this album is."
same, it's precisely why a lot of the "if this album were by anyone else, you guys wouldn't be 5ing it" comments are such a stretch
also, not that I disliked the album cover ever, but I like it even more now that I get what it's recalling

so yeah, overall pleased as can be with this. it's VERY clearly a fan service, it reads as an anthology of the rest of their work (even complete with numerous winks to the audience of historied moments in the discog); a well executed one at that. as such, it's going to be fantastic for brand new fans, and the brand new detractors won't be won over because all the wrought melodrama is still very present.
personally, i wish they'd flexed on the gas a LITTLE more, the album ratios towards somber lull rather than their daisy/tdag trademark cathartic explosions slightly too much for my taste, but overall great album and a fitting end.

science NATION. when???

Album Rating: 4.4
album is called science fiction and is a 'rock' album
in the 'rock'y horror picture show the first words sung are 'science fiction double feature'
therefore double album confirmed
|

that's not a stretch of the imagination at all

ooh sweet, will do, those suggested bands on their page have me hyped
that said, I have a feeling this is all I'll be listening to for like a week but I'm really excited to hear those new Everything Everything, Steven Wilson, Grizzly Bear, King Gizz, and Hammock records too
|

it's good
an instant takeaway is it's not an album I'd recommend to someone who's suicidal. lacey doesn't dance around the subject on this one.
