'anyone who says that they accept queer culture but don't wanna see it'
I've never encountered anyone anywhere ever saying that...but I'm not American if that's the difference
|
| |
as an american can confirm that is a thing that is said frequently here

Our cultures are aligned because of this internet contraption and the bullshit on the box.
We are now one.
Weep.

@winesburgohio ok reading back after looking up like half the words you were using, I am kind of a moron for reading that paragraph how I read it
|
| |
but also what do you mean by "and though i'm uncomfortable with his myopic portrayals of both"

sorry -- i mean that his marketting and persona hinges on him being black and queer, but he doesn't invest thought or reality or stickiness into either, content instead with kinda sweeping platitudes and romantic soul and i've heard from black friends they can't fuck with it and i shit-sure can't fuck with a dude whose selling point in his queer sexuality who won't broach it in ways that don't make the straights uncomfortable.
|
| |
but what marketing tho
|
| |
dude literally just exists in the public eye and puts out music
|
| |
I think Wines means that Frank purposefully exaggerates and exploits that persona, while he actually isn't like that.

"i support the argument Frank Ocean's persona is a cynical manipulation of "woke" tropes and saccharine emotion that divests from the libidinal investment of queer culture to make it palatable to a demographic who accept it but don't want to see it"

listen, your whole argument is completely nullified by the fact frank was enormous before he came out, he was the main singer on Watch The Throne LONG before he did
fuck offffffff

i genuinely find it concerning that saying "Frank Ocean and the people he foregrounds on his album come from vastly different material conditions that impacts on claims of a purported shared experience" is, like, controversial.
also i don't really like the music idk

i'm just discussing this album i haven't heard this Watch the Throne business but i'm sure it's a different beast and I will judge it on my personal rubric accordingly

whether you listened to it or not your point is invalid, his career was well on it's way LONG before he came out

did some critics give it some bonus points based on same lame progressive culture pandering? i have no idea, probably, but you know me well enough to know i am absolutely definitely not in that camp
