There is no way this album is "poor". At first I wasn't blown away, but it definitely wasn't poor.

The instrumentation and vocals on this are so samey throughout. Particularly the vocals. This is decent, but is losing its replay value quickly. A little surprised it's rated so high.

> complaining about the vocals in a stripped-down folk album for being too samey
|

yeah takes a special level of samey for that to be a complaint

I mean it is a little samey, but I really like it like that
Perfect for late night listening

The gorgeous drone-like codas to several of the songs here are what elevate this from another sad folk album and serve to vary the mood a bit.

I don't think "samey" vocals is a requirement for folk music. It's also because I've heard Sufjan do a lot more with this voice that I make the comment. I do realize this album is intended to be that style more than other things he's done. Which is fine, but I enjoy it less.

Tbh I'm not a huge fan of Suf's vocals. They're often way to dreamy for me. They work on this album though.
