and I understand that AE's process works on a similar level to that of surrealists so K this has feels (too many at times?)
care to elaborate on this? not because i disagree just because im not 100% sure i get what you mean.

I kind of understood that their music is infused with the darker or more subconscious/unconscious territories of their mind, a very loose and instinctive free flowing approach to writing sound (as opposed to a more lucid cerebral approach). As for the "too many at times" part, I just feel like sometimes it can be sensory overload with how dense and explosive the music can throb at you, you've really gotta be in a right mindset

| |
not sure if AE ever directly tried any sort of automatic songwriting though (but I wouldn't be really surprised if so)

awesome, i definitely agree with you there. their music is certainly dense and impenetrable at times, but the more effort you put into it the more you get out of it, which is what i love about their stuff.
im still finding new things to like about this albums and ive had it for 2 years at this point. that's precisely why they are my favorite artists currently.

I've had it for almost just as long but am obviously far less devoted (atm?), it still is a record that fascinates me in ways I can't really put into words

do you mean like generative stuff, like letting code take over and just picking out the good bits?
theyve said in interviews that there is generative stuff like that on confield and oversteps, but that the "generative" things arent "random", theyre just controlled sets of patterns they like.

def didn't mean something like code taking over with the musicians erasing themselves from songwriting completely, picking out the good bits is closer to what I had in mind. I think I'll probs check these interviews out too cheers

yeah those interviews can explain it much better than i can, they arent always too lucid about their composition techniques, but they give a better sense of what they mean by "generative".
