He's really not that audible compared to Steve Harris or David Ellefson


Both Harris and Ellefson are heavy on the trebble, which makes them very distinguishable. Cliff not so much, but his playing makes the riffs sound as full and crunchy as they do. The bass doesn't need to be distinctly in it's own layer of the mix to be audible.

It's funny, people say that Cliff made the bass a lead instrument, which he certainly did in some songs, but most of the time, he was just there, subtly adding his own layer of sound to the mix, which is what I admire in him
