The intro chord progression in Black Hole Sun is one of my favourites ever, so nice to play.

Oh hell yeah. I also loooove that Leslie rotating speaker sound that Thayill uses on his lead tone and for the guitar parts during the verses. I recreated that sound for the solo in Incubus' Drive, which I'm playing in a '90s cover band, and I am currently OBSESSED with it.

Spun this last night for the first time in eons. Still feels to me like a successful refinement of/improvement on everything AIC did with Layne.

If you asked me to pick between Staley and DuVall as a vocalist, I would probably pick Staley, but I don't think DuVall is far behind and I personally find the songwriting on this album to be even better than, say, Dirt, as fantastic as that album is.

Dirt was an album made by a band at their creative peak and at the crest of a musical movement that they themselves built. How could it be considered anything other than perfect?

BGWTB on the other hand is an album made by a bunch of old pros from the best pieces of material they had accumulated over the better part of a decade spent out of the spotlight and away from musical relevance. It's perfect as a comeback album.

Years ago I went to a jam one time and had let everyone know to prep Take Her Out and I was the only one prepped and man I was disappointed.

it's not a strange take thinking the mostly 'just above mediocre' reunion material is the band's best work?

I can’t imagine how anyone can think tracks like Looking in View, Acid Bubble, Private Hell, or the t/t are “just above mediocre” but you do you

I'd rather listen to 'Boggy Depot' than this and that says a lot about the quality of 'nu-Chains'

What are your thoughts on Degradation Trip Doof?

Degradation Trip I know less well but it's also decent. All the post Layne death stuff whether Cantrell solo or nu-Chains is a lot weaker.

In particular 'Dirt' and 'Jar of Flies' are different league to this

I was being somewhat hyperbolic, it's obviously not as good as Jar or Dirt, but I definitely like it more than Facelift.
