The real key to enjoy it, Johnny, is to listen it with the Ozma bundle CD.

didn't this lead singer lightly tap his girlfriend with a pillow, or am i thinking of another band?

He did much more than that

The guy physically and emotionally abused his family for years

"didn't this lead singer lightly tap his girlfriend with a pillow, or am i thinking of another band?"

That was Vektor's frontman. Scott Kelly (the singer, guitar player from Neurosis) did abuse his family for years like Jurtz said, but the pillow thing was from Vektor's guy. He posted a video talking about the incident not so long ago if you are interested:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS66FIG2WSI

Scott Kelly's story is discussed here: https://pitchfork.com/news/neurosis-scott-kelly-admits-to-abusing-family-announces-retirement-from-music/

Vektor's guy incident is still in a blurry spot since there are contradictory claims about it but it made the news after a leaked video and the loss of a record deal. From what I've read so far the guy seemed to have a big problem with alcohol, so it doesn't look good for him, even though in the leaked video there was only a push and a pillow being thrown (which doesn't exactly classify as physical abuse) but it's all in justice's hands. Scott Kelly on the other hand admitted to be a piece of shit in a less than ideal manner so he is a certified piece of shit.

PS: This album is still my fav Neurosis and one of the best albums of the 90s

well I'll say, as what might be the most 'straightforward' Neurosis I've checked thus far, this was a welcome addition to the HDD

Podium is those three in any order, with Times of Grace catching an honourable
Ugh I miss how much I used to love this band. Went through their discog from here to GttR chronologically, always one album at a time (always a CD purchase, usually mint), almost always listening to the whole lot in order before hearing whichever new one for the first time, usually with a space of a few months in between. Still respect the hell out of their sound, but even more than the Scott Kelly stuff, I get this lurking anxiety that they won't be able to chill me the way they used to, and I haven't been able to throw myself back into them the way I have with similar formative bands I got into at the same time, like ISIS and Kayo Dot
Which is silly and I'll probably have a binge eventually anyway, but I don't like imagining hearing Neurosis outside of a formative context. They were harrowing and seemed truly devoted to something larger than life in an earth-bound, deeply grounded way that makes all the metal I jammed at the time (and most I've heard since) sound like a cheap thrill, and I miss the feeling of having my mind incrementally quaked to that degree (closest thing I've heard in the past years has been Boris ig)

I hadn't really thought about it (and will thus endeavour to forget I ever read that!)

Neurosis of now could never compare to those early experiences in reality, yet I never dwell on this fact. They're an occasional dust off this / ASTNS / TSIB band mostly (very occasionally something else) these days. I think it probably helps that I experienced a second-wave of interest thanks to this place

^ confirmed by joined Feb '17, rated TSIB / ToG / ASTNS Mar 17' (as I was going through adding CDs to my account), then I rated this a few months later in Aug '17 (nice that this sort of thing is catalogued)

less nostalgia here as I wasn't as familiar with this era when I joined, yet weirdly it feels a hell of a lot longer than 7 years ago!
