this is THE brutal death metal album imo. influenced multiple subgenres and is still probably the best collection of bdm tunes ever written.
hobbs riffing style and phrasing is essentially unmatched by his peers.

I love Suffocation’s early classics but for brutal death metal that has put out straight fire from day 1 and has shown no signs of letting up my vote goes to Defeated Sanity, they’re probably my favorite death metal band in general these days

i love me some defeated sanity, the sanguinary impetus is my aoty and probably aint gonna change.
while they might have a stronger discog (dont really like any suffo past despise the sun), defeated sanity, and a lot of brutal death metal bands, wouldnt exist if it werent for albums like this.

Defeated Sanity is pretty awesome. Best brutal death discography for me is Skinless but I'm a weirdo and they get very little love here. Defeated is a good candidate though. Suffocations later albums don't do a ton for me but from their demos to probably Despise the Sun is killer indeed. Dying Fetus had a pretty solid run too. Also Effigy comes pretty close to this imo
