Might make my top 10 of the year...but probably not somewhere from 2.5-3.5. Last half is pretty fucking bad and beth/rest is really terrible.

Not liking the s/t so far really, looking about a 3 though for now. Since this isn't usually the kind of music I listen to I guess I need to listen to it a bit more.

Just downloaded the new album, can't wait to have a proper listen. I'll be so gutted if it doesn't live up to this

People shouldn't have classic as an expectation..ruins the listening experience

I don't expect it to be classic, that may come with time. I just want it to be really fucking good that's all

Radiohead is my favourite band though

I could see how that would be a problem yes

I know you're supposed to consider the '5' a classic rating but I never took it that seriously. I
always took it as an album that exceeds the banal of its genre and offers something fresh, unique or
perhaps something important to the table.

Actually, I think Beth/Rest would be better if it was more stripped down and was just vocals and piano.

with regards which is better,
But can it hit in the same way? Can a body pummelled by Emma's acoustic guitars and detached sense of loneliness rebuild itself only to be cut through once again by the same man's abstract, arm's-length desperation? Bon Iver hardly has a 'Skinny Love', but it's starting to look unlikely that Justin Vernon's artistic worth under this moniker will be defined in terms of individual records, and to that end, Bon Iver is Bon Iver, that same ad libitum expression of fragility which permeates everything from 'Woods' to 'Flume', drifting right back to this album's closer 'Beth / Rest'. It is hard to see this man ever releasing something less than completely vital.

If early voting trends hold up . . . Self titled will be #1 on the '11 RYM charts.

If it wasn't for Creature Fear/Team I'd probably have this as a 5, it's become one of my all time favourites.
