My favorite Neurosis album so far, not quite through the discography.

This band rules so much, their mid-2000s releases after Silver in Blood were best imo

they're gold from souls at zero to given to the rising. no better run in metal history, at least that I've heard

Yeah Souls at Zero is among their best. They're up there with the greats of modern metal like Agalloch, Enslaved, Alcest, Maudlin of the Well/Kayo Dot, Novembre, Swallow the Sun, Paradise Lost, Opeth, Isis, old Ulver, Tool, and Meshuggah.

as much as I love Isis, Tool, and Meshuggah, I'd say Neurosis are easily better than all of them. 2/3 of their massive discog is at least superb

It's hard to compare to some of those cause Tool and Ulver have only released 2-4 metal albums total, and it's weird to compare to others who've consistently released 10+ amazing albums like Neurosis. Neurosis and Meshuggah are around the same level of quality imo

Historically, it's this but didn't really "get" TSIB the first time around. It's probably still this, maybe, but it's super close now.
