'This thread bump prompted me to go jam the album again right now. Thanks everyone, appreciate it :]'

Yeah I'm revisiting for the first time in years and it fucking rips so hard, the opening tracks are just relentless pummelling to the face it's amazing.

For me and a generation like me, it was a straight forward graduation from the black album to mouth for war and the rest of this album

for me it's really an album that amplifies and pretty much paved the way for the type of "butt-metal" i hate most - the overly tough-guy energy is kind of disgusting and the fact it turned so many metalheads into insufferable douches that will call you gay if you cry (as a derogatory insult) is a black mark on its legacy even if the riffs are decent at times.

take away the extraneous factors that hurt this album and you're looking at probably a 2.5 or even a 3, but what it did to the genre, to me, is borderline unforgivable.

I just generally don't vibe with the southern groove at all

Gimme jammy/spacey stoner rock instead

Southern grooves are neat in the right hands - I'm a huge Every Time I Die fan and dig me some Maylene so I don't have any issue with that.

"Gimme jammy/spacey stoner rock instead" actually that's a good take

no i dont either i was just joking lol, this is one of the few pantera albums i like, despite this one's cheesy corny ass moments

growing up where this band is from, the fanboy worship for pantera is almost hilarious. so many local metal bands just rip off pantera and shit on any band not like pantera.
