Ha! That must suck. I'm an unabashed faux prog fan. I see no reason why multi-part, polyrhythmic epics can't be concise 4 or 5 minute pop songs. That's most of the reason why I like this album actually.

Anyone who wants quality modern prog metal should check out Leprous' Bilateral.

It isn't song length in general, just that I have been hearing a lot of prog with songs that have numerous jarring time signature changes within short periods of time, sweeps after sweeps, tiny accessible passages book ended by long unappealing passages. It just feels like so many bands are trying to push prog into a very hostile region.

I love Colors, Ghost Reveries and Watershed (although to a lesser extent), Remission and Crack the Skye, anything by Devy. Sure a lot of this is more accessible, but it is nice for some common element to present amongst the chaos.

I get what you're saying. Challenging without being abrasive and technical for the sake of being abrasive and technical. I also have a pretty short attention span, so I like the shifts in mood that prog presents without extended wankery.

I've casually listened to some of their songs. Haven't really given a whole album a chance though.

Just listened to Strip The Soul again and I don't understand why I didn't care for it. Such a chilling

song. Especially the last two minutes.
