Ok Culling Voices is my favorite off the album. Been jamming it to prepare for Wednes, and yeah. After that build up, shit goes hard.

almost every song on here goes limp after it reaches the half point of its runtime

Culling Voices is literally Maynard reciting orthodox chants in the American language with a fluke Nu-Metal breakdown that would make KoRn proud. In my legit part-time music producer opinion, the second part is stale af and lacks dynamics. But really it's just music for people who have tattoos (on their body) in 2022.

Damn, I feel attacked.

Culling Voices was awesome live, particularly the back end. The guitar was laser sharp and they performed it flawlessly. It was surprisingly one of the highlights of the night at Amalie Arena.

"Incubus were boring as shit by the way but Deftones killed it like usual."
Interesting. I've always heard that Deftones aren't that good live

all this album needed was a few heavy parts
literally fucking anything
but it never happens

There are definitely heavy parts here and there, but the edgeless production dulls them quite a bit

Edgeless production? Not sure what you mean by that Koris. I do find the production here to be pretty great. Also, how heavy do you guys want Tool to be? I think Invincible, Descending, and 7empest covers their brand of heavy just fine...

@Titan: Allow me to quote my own review from 2019
"One of the things that made Lateralus and even 10,000 Days so great is that there was always that additional instrumentation that fleshed out the atmosphere of those records. There were always Jones’ guitar pedals and a bunch of warbling industrial effects lending to the dark, eerie vibe Tool succeeded so well at crafting. Sadly, on Fear Inoculum I just hear 4 guys jamming out in the studio. The atmosphere is so empty and sparse on this album, and it doesn’t help that there usually aren’t many extra synthesizers or pedals to spice things up. That’s not to say the entire record is like this; “Pneuma” has an excellent middle section with a buzzing electronic effect alongside some beautiful clean guitar melodies from Jones, and of course the tribal drumming in the majority of the title track is always welcome. But considering this is Tool’s longest and most dense album, it would have been nicer to hear some more little touches to provide extra detail and texture to the experience."

Can't argue with that passage Koris, you're definitely correct. I like that it sounds like 4 guys just jamming, translates seamlessly to the live show which is how hard rock and metal music is really meant to be heard.
Maynard and Danny sound fantastic, Justin's bass can almost be credited as a second guitar and as audible as can be, and Adam's tone is sharp. Not Isis tone sharp, but sharp enough. The low ends put out here, and I think it works well.
I do listen to most of my music on a really good sound system, so I'm not sure if we're all hearing this (or anything else for that matter) the same way. Air pods don't cut it.

It's all good man. I guess from my perspective, I just prefer the soundscapes they created on those early albums. It always reminded me of Rush in the sense that they gave off the illusion of having more members than they actually do, because of all the atmospheric stuff (and having the members multitask of course)

To be fair, it says a lot when I have this as my least favorite Tool and still have it at a 3.5, lol
