Ticks and Leeches is the worst real song on Lateralus and kind of messed up the album’s flow. Meanwhile Disposition/Reflection is one of their all time best. I say this as someone that prefers the Aenima sound. Though even on Aenima the T/T is the weakest real song IMO while it sounds like you disagree
Edit: meant for Doof

I've listened to this album with great patience until yes I'm in the same common opinion as many of you, except for 7empest.

Ticks I was wondering what I used to like about it until the second half of the tune kicks in.
Aenima t/t is arguably their greatest and most ‘Tool ethos’ song.
Eulogy might be better but tbh Eulogy is better than about twelve or so Eulogy wannabes they’ve composed since. They sort of perfected that song/sound at the first showing - and got their needle stuck. Still, they made a career out of it - and it is a good sound/song lol

When I was 17 Aenima came out and became my favourite album until Ok Computer came out - would have considered it top 10 until i was about 23.
Do have a soft spot for it - and if this band have an ‘anthem’ surely it’s the t/t

Tempest, spelled with a 7 cause 7 is a recurring theme of the album.

Literally every other full song on Aenima is better and more interesting than the t/t except arguably Stinkfist. H/Eulogy are my personal favorites though. I think 46&2 is a better single for capturing their general sound and vibe than the t/t. I think the t/t is quite distinct in their catalogue actually

There has been so much whining about how overrated they are over the years that it often feels like they are underrated if anything. Not on this site though.

I really don’t understand the griping if you like Tool. It sounds like Tool. If it didn’t sound like Tool everyone would be outraged so I’m not sure what they were supposed to do here.

People have been stating a lot of complaints about this, a lot of them being way more in-depths than you make it sound. It sounding like Tool is not the problem for anyone. Not everything is about how it sounds, but rather where they went with that sound, which isn't as impressive as on earlier releases imo.
Re-listening now btw and liked the opener quite a bit more than initially. Let's see how this goes.
Edit: Pneuma is still boring to me :/

For someone who's a big fan i think it has enough details to make it different from the rest of their stuff
Of course if you were never a fan all you'll hear are the same drop d riffs and it won't change what you think of them
