it’s very distracting esp on war squids and the spectral burrows but the riffs are undeniable [2]

I have never even noticed this lol

hopefully you keep not noticing it because once you do it’s impossible to ignore.
it’s like a popcorn kernel stuck in your teeth.

I mean producers copy/paste/do studio things all the time, like splicing different takes together to make the best combo and so forth. Just gotta ensure that the job is done seamlessly so there aren't annoying pops/clicks or weird dynamic differences. If it's done properly you'll never know.
That being said, I will try to forget that it's even done on here so I don't accidentally hear it and can't unhear it lol.

the brick-walled nature of the prod bothers me more tbh because it's pretty darn fatiguing at times
but yeah, the riffs are undeniable (3)

yeah not a massive fan of the brick-walled production either. everything slammed to the max is such a tiresome listening experience. I much prefer dynamic range and space in a mix.

Yeah it's unfortunate but I have to have some level of understanding with these 1-2 man largely home produced projects that don't really have the funds or the know-how for better production.
There's always hope/room for improvement like w/ the latest Kardashev single and it does look like he's got a real drummer on the new shit so that's good.
The copy/pasting riffs thing definitely feels like a weird hyperfocus though, I can't imagine noticing this without paying weirdly strict attention.

you dont have to have more funds or better "know how" to play a riff for the full section instead of 16 bar loops you clearly copy/pasted.
im sure bands do it more than is warranted but here its so egregious its impossible not to notice it. seriously, listen to the beginning of the spectral burrows. you can literally hear the whole track clip at the end of the 16 bar riffs where they clearly just copyed it over and didnt even attempt to make the merge sound natural.

I've listened to that specific section a few times just now and I honestly don't notice anything out of the ordinary. I use Tidal.

We're all entitled to criticism however this shit is still top tier as far as my ears are concerned.
|

it’s like I said on the last page; the riffs are pretty undeniable, I just wish it didn’t have these production issues so I could really full stop enjoy it.

Some of you guys make me glad my ears don't work very well. It honestly seems like having the production ear can literally ONLY detract from a listening experience, but I guess if you find a good recording maybe you just jizz all over the place? IDK, I'll admit my ignorance.

Yeah this really suffers from its production, but not as much as Dim and Slimeriddon Kingdoms, that album hurts

it’s gonna be difficult listening to modern metal prod again after DS / SUMAC happened last year tbh
thought I’d just gone soft musically, a changing of my preferences etc. and maybe that’s true (in part) but I had no such issues with those albums because they were phenomenal prod wise. Gold standard. Now, I’m not expecting such greatness every time, but it probably hurts knowing that’s possible, regardless

I mean that album is still pretty awesome and war squids is a massive tune but it's impossible for me to not pick up on it. That being said I record my own music and have many times cut and pasted riffs together but there are steps you can take to make them a little more blended and natural and throughout this whole album it adds up. Especially on the songs where the riff is played like 6-8 times in a row
