Nah TWFM is still quite a bit better than this imo, half the songs on that are better than almost everything on this.

TWFM is significantly better than this but that’s an all time top 10 album and near-perfect.

Part of me sort of agrees but this is more diverse and energetic, and TWFM is such a difficult listen all the way through sometimes. This has a wilder, more unpredictable nature to it that appeals to me.

I guess for me it's sort of the opposite Talons, I prefer the more consistent atmosphere of TWFM.

Yeah this one just excites me, and it being their first new album since I began loving the band might make me biased.

Yeah and my friend who got me into the band and I find that it sounds so thick, and dreary and muted. It’s still a 9/10 album and I love a lot of it.

This grew off my by a sliver of a hair (4.7 -> 4.5, lol). I just can't justify ranking it above some of the really strong 4.5's I have out there so I think this is where my rating for this settles.

Yeah despite having heard it a ton of times it's honestly still hard to say whether I actually really love this for the music itself or if I only love it because it's The National.

I'm in the opposite boat, had a hell of an experience with this album this weekend and now I'm on the borderline of bumping this to a 5

It's definitely grown on me a lot too, it's just that despite the fact that my rating for this isn't that different than my ratings for the rest of their albums I can't deny that this one has a much weaker emotional impact on me. It's certainly a great album, but if it were my first National album would I still be rating it a 4.5? Probalby not.

I think its vibe makes it a flawless bedtime album and thats why I slapped a 5 on it personally. Front to back its a perfect album to unwind to in the wee hours of the morning. Is it my favorite of theirs? Nah, buts it's top 3 by a narrow margin I reckon.

It's certainly superb in terms of craft. I just wish it had a slightly greater emotional impact - but I suspect that I will grow to love it even more with time.

I mean that may be true for all I know but I'm talking about the emotions it evokes in me/how emotionally attached I myself am to the music. All of their last four albums evoke a much stronger emotional response from me than this one does. So it's a personal matter, not necessarily a question of the quality of the music itself.
