It all seems a bit of an effort for him now I dunno, 'Honeybear' sounded intuitive and like he had loads of ideas and avenues to pursue.
He's stuck in a cul-de-sac now really.

he explores more ideas in his new album than any of his previous, that's one of my favourite things about it. every track is unique from the last and has its own identity. really sounds like an artist who is creatively refreshed and on top of his game

It's a masterpiece compared to the previous one but the vocals can't help but feel retread'y (tired?) for me now in particular but also I'd say most of the songs sound like he's riffing off established song ideas from previous work.
Maybe not the really long quasi funk rock tune on the second half (which is only semi successful imo) but other than that and the chorus for 'Screamland' nothing surprised me too much.
Basically 'Pure Comedy' sounded like the wilfully 'difficult' and 'awkward' album that was clever because it was intentional...but since then it's all sounded difficult and a little awkward, against his will. For me.
