i support the argument Frank Ocean's persona is a cynical manipulation of "woke" tropes and saccharine emotion that divests from the libidinal investment of queer culture to make it palatable to a demographic who accept it but don't want to see it; i also think the oft-cited "RIP Trayvon, that nigga look just like me" is, uhh... well, a couple of million dollars off the mark. the refusal to acknowledge class among the Left is a challenge, and i'm not sure superficial comparisons that don't hold up to scrutiny are the way forward. buuuut:
dude is black and queer (bisexuals exist; there may even be one in this thread as we exist) and though i'm uncomfortable with his myopic portrayals of both, denying him that experience seems reductive and unfair.
