It was easily my favorite rediscovery of an album that I've experienced. Back when I was a young lad first messing with the sput I was really having a field day getting extreme metal recs and obsessing over dm specifically. Gorguts was one of the earlier bands I really dived into and I loved Considered Dead and Erosion but really didn't care for Obscura or this one much at all. I went back to Obscura many years ago just off of the sheer praise I saw it get and ended up loving it going back. Around the time I first jammed the Gorguts discography I was really hung up on brutal death metal ala Putrid Pile and tech death so it isn't too crazy looking back and trying to figure out why I didn't take the time to really soak in Obscura.

Going back to this one though I'm really shocked I didn't dig this one back then. The grooves here are fucking insane and I really love every note here. At the time I thought this was the weakest link by far and that blows my mind. I think The Quest for Equilibrium is my favorite track here. Whole thing rules though. The solo on the title track and the way it transitions back was also a major highlight for me. I'll have to spin this some more but I think it's officially one of my favorites from the Guts. I also have a bad habit of getting real stuck on certain albums from major bands in the genre and just off of the insane amount I enjoyed this makes me want to list out major albums I've been neglecting and give them the sweet, sweet ear loving that they deserve.

AND THATS THE FINAL TRUTH

The people have spoken so it looks like I must begin my jamming! And you're right about the opinions of the bros Cap, it's insane the amount of awesome albums I've discovered due to some of the members on this site.
